Busan, Slow by the Sea — A Quieter City for Skincare
May 11, 2026
Korean beauty doesn't live in Gangnam alone. Seventy minutes from Fukuoka — a city that suits recovery better.
Say you're going to Korea for beauty care, and most people picture Seoul's Gangnam straight away. It's a natural association. Gangnam holds the densest cluster of aesthetic dermatology clinics in Korea, and this magazine has walked that street many times.
But Korean beauty does not live in Gangnam alone. About seventy minutes by plane from Fukuoka — far closer than Seoul — there is another city. Busan.
The first thing that comes to mind with Busan is distance. From Fukuoka, Busan is closer than Osaka is from Tokyo. A short flight, light luggage. It means Korea sits at a distance you can visit on a weekend, not a journey you have to steel yourself for.
But Busan's real difference lies in its texture more than its distance. If Gangnam is a fast, tightly woven city, Busan is a slow, open one. The sea reaches into the city, the pace of walking is different, the density of the air is different.
This difference connects, unexpectedly deeply, with skincare. As Issues 1 through 5 have said, the heart of Korean care is recovery, not shock. And recovery depends on environment. What skin needs after a procedure is not another packed itinerary, but the time and space to quietly settle. Busan is a city that suits that time of recovery.
Receive a light treatment in the morning, then walk slowly somewhere with a view of the sea in the afternoon. The skin the next morning feels different from when the same procedure is wedged between crowded plans. As much as what you received, where you were afterward matters — a fact known to those who have been receiving care for a long time.
Here is the line worth carrying with you. If Gangnam is the speed of Korean beauty, Busan is its breathing. You could experience both in one trip — or, with recovery at the centre, Busan alone may well be enough.
This is why KLIZEN places its base in Busan. The closest Korea to Fukuoka, and the environment best suited to recovery. We design, together, the trustworthy clinics of Busan and the seaside rhythm that fills the time around them. To experience Korean beauty for the first time, there is no starting point as unburdened as Busan.
